European Wild Boars

Livestock Sales & Meat Production
From time to time, farm-raised pigs may be available, either live or as pork products, depending on availability and season. Our pigs are raised in a calm, well-managed environment with a strong focus on animal welfare and quality feed.

Pork is a versatile red meat known for its rich flavour, tenderness and wide range of uses. When raised on a small-scale farm, pork develops a deeper taste and better texture than mass-produced alternatives. It is naturally high in protein, B vitamins and essential minerals, making it both nutritious and satisfying.

Farm-produced pork is often more affordable than store-bought meat and offers full transparency in how the animals are raised.

Farming with Wild Boars
Our European wild boar operation began in March 2025 with a single boar and five sows. Since then, the herd has grown rapidly - as wild boars are well known for their strong breeding ability and natural resilience.

Initially housed in a smaller enclosure, the animals were later moved into a much larger camp set within the bush. This environment allows them to behave as they naturally would: roaming freely, rooting in the soil, creating mud wallows, and exploring their surroundings. Providing space and a natural setting has been essential to their wellbeing and overall condition.

Wild boars are intelligent, robust animals that require relatively low day-to-day intervention when managed correctly. While they can become accustomed to human presence - often gathering expectantly at feeding times - they remain largely untouchable and retain their natural instincts. As with any powerful animal, they can be unpredictable, particularly during breeding or when hierarchy is challenged, which is why careful management and respect are essential.

Their diet is managed to support healthy growth and condition, while encouraging natural foraging behaviour. Access to space, movement, and environmental enrichment plays a key role in keeping the herd balanced and active.

More About These Pigs
The European wild boar (Sus scrofa) is the ancestor of most modern domestic pig breeds and has a long history intertwined with human settlement, agriculture, and wilderness across Europe and parts of Asia.

Renowned for their hardiness, intelligence, and adaptability, wild boars have survived for centuries in diverse and often harsh environments. They are natural foragers, capable of utilising a wide variety of food sources, and are highly skilled at navigating dense bush and woodland areas.

Physically, European wild boars are strong and muscular, with thick hides, coarse hair, and well-developed tusks in mature males. Social by nature, they live in structured groups led by sows, while mature boars often assert dominance and require careful management.

Today, European wild boars are farmed on a limited scale, primarily in extensive systems that allow them to retain their natural behaviours. Their ability to thrive in natural bushveld conditions makes them particularly suited to farms where space, environmental balance, and responsible management are prioritised.

For us, farming with European wild boars is about working with the animal as it is - respecting its instincts, strength, and place within the ecosystem.
