Livestock Sales & Meat Production

From time to time, Boer goats may be available for sale, either live or as farm-raised meat, depending on availability and season. As our herd continues to grow, we aim to offer healthy, well-managed animals raised with care and attention.

Boer goat meat is a high-quality red meat with a flavour similar to lamb, but naturally leaner and lower in fat. It is rich in protein, iron and essential nutrients, making it a wholesome and flavourful alternative to other red meats. Farm-raised goat meat is also free from unnecessary processing, offering a more natural and affordable option compared to retail products.

Availability varies, so we invite interested buyers to contact us directly for more information.

From the Ground Up

Our Boer goat journey began on 1 February 2025 with the arrival of our first four goats - a young ram, an adult ewe and her two lambs. They were named Meneertjie, Ousus, Bekkie and Vlekkie, and at the time, they required care, attention and rehabilitation, marking the start of a hands-on learning process that would shape our approach to farming.

With them, the foundation of our Boer goat operation was laid — the beginning of a journey built on growth, responsibility and learning from the ground up.

From those first four goats, the herd slowly grew. We invested in additional animals, proper equipment and were fortunate enough to expand into larger camps suited to responsible goat farming. What followed was a steep learning curve - one that demanded attention, resilience, and humility.

Over time, we have dealt with a wide range of health challenges common to Boer goats. These experiences have taught us the importance of close observation, quick response and informed decision-making. Some treatments worked, others did not. We have made mistakes we will never repeat and we have received advice from experienced farmers that is truly invaluable.

Continuous learning is a cornerstone of our approach. We actively attend Boer goat courses and remain committed to improving our knowledge, understanding that there is always more to learn when working with animals and nature.

Our goats are taken out to graze in the veld each morning, allowing them to move naturally and utilise the land as intended. In the afternoons, they are brought back and supplemented with feed to ensure balanced nutrition and optimal condition. Two Anatolian Shepherd dogs accompany the herd for protection. While they are still young and learning, they already form an important part of our management system - more about them can be found on a dedicated page.

Our Boer goats represent more than livestock. They symbolise the beginning of Lekkerbreek Farming - built from compassion, hard-earned experience and a commitment to doing things the right way.

The Boer Goat Breed

The Boer goat is a proudly South African breed, developed in the early 20th century by local farmers who understood the demands of harsh climates and extensive farming conditions. The name “Boer goat” comes from the Afrikaans word boer, meaning farmer - a reflection of its practical origins and purpose.

Selective breeding focused on strength, adaptability, fertility and meat quality. Over time, the Boer goat became known for its distinctive appearance, fast growth rate and ability to thrive in challenging environments such as the bushveld. Its calm temperament and strong mothering instincts further contributed to its success as a foundation meat goat breed.

What sets the Boer goat apart is its resilience. Bred to perform under natural grazing conditions, Boer goats are well suited to extensive systems where animals must utilise the veld efficiently. This makes them not only productive, but also well aligned with responsible and sustainable farming practices.

Today, Boer goats are internationally recognised and farmed across the world, yet their roots remain firmly planted in South African soil. For us, working with Boer goats is both a practical choice and a way of honouring a breed shaped by the same land and values that shape our farm.

Our Dairy Goats

Alongside our Boer goats, we also keep a small number of dairy goats - two Alpine goats and one Saanen. These breeds are known for their gentle nature and reliable milk production.

While our dairy goats are kept on a small scale, they form an important part of our farm system and contribute to our understanding of goats beyond meat production.
