Our Way of Farming

Nestled just outside Thabazimbi on the Makoppa road, in the heart of the Waterberg bushveld, our farm is rooted in Limpopo’s natural beauty and rich agricultural heritage. Rooted in a fourth-generation family farm originally enjoyed for leisure and recreation, the farming operation was officially established in 2025, marking the beginning of a hands-on journey built through learning, development and dedication.

Our farming practices are guided by principles of sustainability, ecological balance and respect for natural systems - not as a trend, but as a responsibility. We aim to work with nature rather than against it, creating a symbiotic environment where land, animals and people can thrive together. Responsible land use, animal welfare, and long-term environmental stability are non-negotiable values on our farm.

Christian faith forms a core foundation of who we are and how we operate. We are proud of our Afrikaans heritage and traditional values, which shape our work ethic, our sense of responsibility and the way we treat others. Life on the farm is defined by hard work, mutual respect, helping where you can and finding joy in the process. There is always laughter alongside the labour and optimism alongside the challenges.

We believe in dreaming big while staying grounded - honouring the values passed down through generations, while building a future that is ethical, sustainable and meaningful.

The Lekkerbreek Name

Lekkerbreek Farming carries both personal history and a deep connection to the natural environment in which we farm.

The land itself has long been known as Grootfontein Farm, which originally belonged to our grandfather. After his passing, the farm was divided between family members. While the land remains part of Grootfontein, our farming operation was established under its own name - Lekkerbreek Boerdery - marking a new chapter while still honouring the past.

The name Lekkerbreek was chosen intentionally. It refers to the Lekkerbreek tree (Pappea capensis), a hardy indigenous tree species well adapted to the bushveld regions of Limpopo. Known for its resilience, longevity, and ability to thrive in tough conditions, the Lekkerbreek tree reflects the spirit of our farm and our approach to farming.

Traditionally, the Lekkerbreek tree has been valued for its strength and usefulness, growing slowly but steadily and becoming deeply rooted over time. These qualities resonate strongly with our philosophy - building something sustainable, grounded and enduring through patience, hard work and respect for the land.

Lekkerbreek Boerdery represents continuity and growth: rooted in family history, shaped by nature and focused on creating a future that is both responsible and meaningful.
